The Biography of Alexander Dumas
Born in Villers Catterets in Ainse, July 24th, Alexander Dumas was a famous writer. He was a son of a General and was the grandson of a nobleman,who had settled in San Diego (Dominican Republic) and married a black women.
He wrote successful action plays. As a clerk he attended performances of an English Shakespearian company and was inspired to write drama. The Comedy Franceš produced his play Henri III es sa cour (Henry III and his court) in 1829 at the age of 27,and the romantic drama Christine in 1830 at the age of 28, both were huge successes. Other plays include Antony in 1831,La tour de Nelse (the tower of Nelse) in 1832 and Catherine Howard in 1834.
Alexander had little formal education but he read a huge number of books. He particulally liked 16th and 17th century adventure stories. He also made adventure stories from 1844 to 1845. Alexander also wrote biographies, pet books,children's books and even a cook book. His two most famous books were The Three Musketeers and the The Count of Monte Cristo. His books were widely read. About 1200 books were published by him.
Alexander had a son born in 1824 but died in 1890. Alexander made his own opera La Traviata in 1853. He tried to make money with Journalism but with little success. In his young adult life he was a General for Napoleon's army, but apart from that he had a simple adult life. Born in 1802, he died at the age of 68, in 1870, on December the 5th, virtually bankrupt.
