Year 2003

Hi,
Autumn Term 2003

School began on September 3rd.
We're all in bigger classes now! Year 6 are enjoying Bible Classes again this term and next. The teachers have a 'new staffroom' and workmen are still working on the old one. The school football team has played several games. The 2nd team played Forest Street recently. The Christmas Fair went well and the Y6 2nd hand book stall made £40! In Y6 we made Christmas newspapers and videoed a 'news programme'! We had our Christmas Service in the church this year.

Hi,
Summer Term 2003

At our Leavers' service we performed A Midsummer Night's Dream, we loved doing it!

Recently we had a 'Scholastic Book Fair' which Mrs Singleton ran all week - again. Lots of children chose books. The school also receives a commission on the books sold, so we were able to buy some new books as well! All this year we have been running a 2nd hand book store and that has provided funds for books too.

Mrs Garnet and Mrs Goodwin have retired and we wish them both well.

The annual Year 6 visit to the Isle of Man was great fun the weather was great! This year we went to the Wildlife Park which was good fun. We also went on the Sea Cat - brilliant!

Mr Spendel said our SATS results were brilliant this year! So it's well done for all the hard work!

Just before Easter we had our usual Easter Egg Competition. As always it was a great success and enjoyed by all

Spring Term 2003

This term we have had our Bible Classes and they're great fun.

In 2002

Hi,
Our news...... Year 2002

Hi,
Summer Term 2002

School began on April 8th.

Recently we celebrated "Book Week."All the staff and most of the pupils dressed up as characters from books. It was a lot of fun. We also had a 'Scholastic Book Fair' which Mrs Singleton ran all week. Lots of children chose some super books. The school also receives a commission on the books sold, so we were able to buy some new books as well!

Miss Warrington left us after a year and we wish her well.

The annual Year 6 visit to the Isle of Man was great fun, but the weather was a bit blowy!

Just before Easter we had an "Easter Egg Competition." - the week before we broke up. It was a great success and enjoyed by all. Mrs Jones came back to judge the competition. The standard was excellent.

Spring Term 2002

School began on January 7th.
This term we celebrated our 50th Anniversary! The actual school opening day was January 7th 1952! We had an "Open Day." - on Friday the 11th. It was a great success and enjoyed by all.
Recently the children put on a super performance of Joseph and his amazing Technicolour Raincoat. Mrs Jones came back to see us.

Autumn Term 2001

School began on September 5th.
Mrs Jones has retired and we welcome Miss Warrington to replace her. Mrs Jones had been at the school for over 20 years and will be sorely missed. Upstairs has been repainted and partly recarpeted and looks super! The hall has had new windows, new carpet and has been decorated. Year 6 are enjoying Bible Classes every Tuesday afternoon this term and they are great fun. The school football team defeated Forest Street in our first game of the season. Judo has started on Monday mornings and the children are enjoying it. The children raised £139.42 for Children in Need with a Non-Uniform day. The Christmas Fair went well and the following week was interesting to say the least. Just before Christmas we had a suspected gas leak. Everybody pulled together brilliantly, some children went to the church; some children went to the community centre. We had sandwiches and dinner in the church hall. The next day we had a power failure on the morning of the Christmas Service! Luckily power was restored and a super service was enjoyed by all.

Summer Term 2001

School began on April 23rd.
The Isle of Man trip was another hugely enjoyable visit. Year 6 had a 'First Aid Day' which was enjoyable and successful; with all the children receiving certificates. At last - all the major work is completed. We have new double glazing all along the road front..... it will be nice if the other side gets done sometime. We have recently purchased some new iMacs along with a 'wireless' basestation, this allows us to network machines without any cabling. Clever eh? Update on the 50th Anniversary Celebrations. It seems the actual opening day of this school was Jan 7th 1952. If there is enough interest, I will devote part of the web site to an anniversary section, so if anyone reading this is an ex-pupil and has anything they would like to contribute..... please e-mail through. These might be little anecdotes; memories of past pupils or teachers; photographs; cuttings etc etc etc.

Spring Term 2001
This term Mr Hughes organised a trip to "Old Trafford." - it was a great success and enjoyed by all. Next year the school celebrates its 50th birthday. We plan to celebrate this in the spring term. Mrs Waring has just given birth to a baby son! Her second boy. Congratulations. Work on the school building is continuing, the windows are currently being replaced.

Autumn Term 2000 School began on Tuesday 5th September 2000. We continue to receive e-mail from ex pupils, it is fascinating to see where they are from and when they were here. Mr Hughes replaced Mr Carew and has settled in. This term has been quite unusual - the school roof has been replaced - this meant classes had to work in the hall on rotation. The amount of rain we've had this term has meant many more 'wet plays' than usual. Talking about plays, the Christmas Infant and Junior concerts were a rip-roaring success. many, many parents and grandparents, as well as brothers and sisters attended. Money raised went to charity. Earlier in the term the Christmas Fair was held and about a £1000 was raised for school funds.

Year 2000 up to July......
At the end of the year Mr Carew has sadly left us to take up a more senior position.
He will be sorely missed. Under his guidance, Wallerscote School won the area tag Rugby trophy,
and went on to win the Fair Play award at the Cheshire games.

Isle of Man - Year 6 Trip
This year we flew to the Isle of Man for the first time.
This is a much better way to travel!
As usual the trip was hugely successful and enjoyed by all.

SPORTS REPORT
by Mr Carew

Sport at Wallerscote Physical Education is a subject the vast majority of Wallerscote pupils thoroughly enjoy. The children are given the opportunity to sample a wide variety of sports including football, netball, hockey, rugby, rounders, cricket, athletics, tennis, swimming, gymnastics and dance. As well as sampling these sports during P.E lessons the older children are able to develop their skills further by participating in sport when the school day has ended. The most popular after school sport is football, with over 30 Year 5 and 6 children regularly participating in after school practice. It is very pleasing to see that the number of girl participants is on the increase. The introduction of seven a side football may be an important reason for this. By playing in smaller teams the children come in contact with the ball much more regularly and become more confident in the process. The better players are no longer in permanent possession of the ball. Seven a side football has allowed more children to participate in matches against other school teams. Against some of the bigger primary schools we have been able to have two matches played at the same time. Whilst it is always stressed that the primary objective is to take part and enjoy ourselves we certainly like winning too. We hope to defend the Northwich Schools BarclayÕs Six a Side Cup we won last year. As we move into spring and the weather gets warmer, our concentration moves toward summer games, such as cricket and rounders. I think most children would agree that one of the highlights of the school week is playing a game of cricket or rounders on a sunny afternoon on our excellent playing field. We are already looking forward to participating in a Kwik cricket tournament at Weaverham Cricket club in late May. Will we find the new Courtney Walsh or Ian Botham ?! The summer term is naturally the busiest in terms of sporting competition. We take part in the Tag Rugby tournament organised by Northwich RUFC, although I think it would be fair to say we have not quite mastered this competition. This, however, might be our year as more and more of our children are playing Rugby at school and in their own time. Arguably the highlight of the sporting calender is the Northwich Schools Athletics Evening held in Hartford in July. Over 20 children are able to represent their school in what has always been an exciting evening, enjoyed by both the athletes and spectators. Every child pushes themselves to produce their very best. You are guaranteed to see a large number of superb performances. A fantastic team spirit is always created at this event. Sport can have a positive affect on peoples health and social life. For these reasons we try to encourage as many children as possible to participate in sport. Hopefully it becomes a habit they do not give up.

Summer Promenade Concert - May 2000

Every year weaverham High School invites the local primary schools to take part in their summer promenade concert. The theme of the concert this year was 'The Sea'. our school choir - Yrs 3, 4 and 5 - sang a selection of sea shanties. All the children dressed up as pirates! There were some super photos of the children. It was a very successful and most enjoyable evening; the children sang beautifully and looked fantastic. Miss Yarwood.

Recycling
Hi! Me (Cerileah) and Jamie are the new Recycling Officers. We are waiting for our new folders, certificate and things that come with the folder. Today (7.10.99) we telephoned a company to see whether they would send us some information and hopefully it is on It's way. We can't wait until we set completions and things like that. If our parents will let us we are going to Northwich Shopping-Centre to see if we can find out anything about recycling. We really enjoy being this years Recycling Officers. It is ACE! I think it is the best job anyone can get in school. Oh yes, I forgot to mention our ages! I am 10 and Jamie is 10, we are in the same year. I am in year 6 and Jamie is in year 6. The class I'm in is ace as well as the job. The teacher is called Mr Spendel and he is the one who chose us. I think he is the best teacher in the school because he tells jokes. The first competition we would like to set a word search as a competition and nearer Christmas to set one were you have to design a poster to do with Christmas and Recycling. Now it is Monday 11th October 1999 and it has still not come. Jamie and I can't wait till it comes. But the information has come(11.10.99) today and I have got to stay behind from an assembly to look at it. We have got some posters and a letter from the person who sent it us.

All for now. CW and JS

Operation Christmas Child - December 1999
Wallerscote Primary School have been collecting shoe boxes and some stuff to put in them, for the children in need of charity. We had to wrap the boxes with wrapping paper, fill with stuff that people had brought in, our class filled about 6 boxes, then we had to stick a sticker on top of each box, some said Girl, some said Boy and some said Boy/Girl. It took us quite a long time to wrap the boxes up, but we got there in the end. Some of the stuff we put in the boxes were things like flannels, soaps, toothbrushes, toothpastes, hairbrushes, combs, sweets, teds, dolls, books and colours.

Year 5 have set up an e-mail prject with a school in Germany, and some Canadian children are going to write to Miss Waring's class.

Report on the Isle of Man trip - June 1999

Our Year six class went on a trip to the Isle of Man for 5 days from 21st of June to the 26th of June with six teachers, Mr Spendel, Mr Roberts, Mr & Mrs Williams and Mr & Mrs Bell.

Transportation
Our class went on a boat to the Isle of Man, the boat we went on was called the Seacat Isle of Man (a boat). Its maximum speed was around 30 notes which is about 33 mph. It was quite choppy on the way there, but perfect on the way back, and I felt sick. But when I got on the deck I felt a lot better. The sea cat had a shop which was nice, and it was a very nice ship to ride on. Myself and my class went on three types of transport which were Steam train, Electric train and by Bus. The stream train was great fun and a good way for locals to get around. The bus was just the same as any other ride but the bus drivers were very nice, and chatiful, and it gave a nice view of the beautiful scenery. The Electric train went a lot slower than I thought, and the carriages were windy. The only thing that caught my eye was the scenery, the train went right by the side of the coast which gave you a great view of the sea and sometimes you saw a seal which was a special treat. Altogether the transportation was enjoyable and I give it 8 out of 10.

Entertainment
Nearly every day we went on the beach to play beach games or have a swim. I liked to swim best but the beach games were good as well through but my right knee hurt a bit because I had injured it before so it wasn't as fun as it would of been if I hadn't hurt my leg. The swimming was good fun because it was great to splash everyone and duck them under the water, and playing water games, it was really exciting. After the beach we went into this bar basement thing were you could have a drink and a snack. There was a table tennis room next to the bar and that was a nice place to have a chat, even though we were the very loud we had a great time, and I give this 8 out of 10

Weather
The weather at the Isle of Man was great that week it only rained once and that was only on the first day when we were going to the Isle of Man on the Seacat. The weather was beautiful but some days it was a bit cloudy, and I give the weather 9 out of 10.

Planned visits to the Isle of Man
Our class went on a walk to Milner's Tower on a cliff it is supposed to look like a key (but it didn't look like a key to me any way). It was a nice walk but the tower itself wasn't very interesting it had no history behind no displays plays not anything not even a bit of writing, all we did was go up then down again. I didnÕt enjoy it much so I give it 4 out of 10.
Peel castle was enjoyable it had a lot of history behind it and this time you could find out about it as well, in the 11th century it became the residence of the of the Norse Kings of Mann. I liked the crypt best, it is were they put their dead (it must of stunk down there I wouldn't put dead bodies down there). It was a lot of laughs, being with all my friends and going exploring, but it got a bit boring at the end, so I give it 8 out of 10.
The House of Manannan talked about Celts and the Vikings and how Christianity came about. It was built in 1997 and all the displays are up to date in technology, like things like touch screens and such and the best display is when the display is half inside the building and half outside the Building. It was a super day and I give it 10 out of 10.
Silverdale was beautiful with all the scenery, lots of different types of plants, and the boating lake we went on was great, I thought it was the greatest part of the trip, its great fun to go of rowing into the middle of the lake and relaxing, and its even better because there is a playground as well. It was absolutely the best day ever and I am so so pleased IÕm going to give it 11 out of 10!!!
Castle Rushen is probably better than Peel castle because Castle Rushen has been brought back to the way it was at its peak of time. There were people as well who gave out information and told us about the display, if they do a little bit more to Castle Rushen then I would give it 10 out of 10 but I give it 9 out of 10.
The Manx Museum was interesting but I think it would be more for adults. It was still good but I thought it should it should be for older children, like the second year High school. The most interesting thing was the Manx Giant he was 7 feet 2 inches tall. (Big huh!). I give it 7 out of 10.
The Laxey wheel is an amazing sight and its ace to go down the mines, the laxey wheel is the biggest water wheel and you could climb right to the top, it is used to pump water out of the mines it was amazing sight and I can't find anything bad about it so I give it 10 out of 10.
Cregneash was a bit more interesting tan Milners tower, because it was bigger and there were people telling you information, I wasn't that enjoyable but it was Alright, and I give it 5 out of 10.

See some work from 1997's Y1?
The end of 1997, we got some toys and put them in shoe boxes and then wrapped them up. All the classes in the school have made 5 or 6 each. We are going to send them to all poor countries for example Bosnia, we also put some money towards them.
Our Christmas play was `Oliver`, it went really well. The best night that we did was on the Thursday night, that night no one got their words wrong.
Our reception teacher, Mrs Rutter returned to school after having a baby boy called Oliver.
We had really strong winds here in England, one of our school windows had smashed , it also blew down a lot of trees which caused severe accidents.
Another 2 classes are now carrying out e-mail projects; Y2 with a school in Mexico, and Y5 with a school in Spain. - All together now that's 4 classes with contacts in the USA, Canada, Australia, Spain and Mexico.
Our school netball team played in a tournament unfortunately we got knocked out of the final. On the 13th June our school football team played in a tournament and guess what , we won the runners-up tournament.
In May, Year 6 did their tests some people found it very difficult and some people found it quite easy. We are now waiting for our results.
On June 22nd our class is going to the Isle of Man until the 26th June , it is an educational holiday. Some people have started packing a month before because we are so excited.
The village Rose Fete is coming up soon and some of our pupils are taking part. When the Rose Fete is here the fair is coming.
The Isle of Man trip was brilliant!
Miss Hall got married this year and is now Mrs Virdi.

Jackie and Katie

Early in 1997 some pupils from our school competed in another cross country. This time in the girls race we succeeded in style. Kate, who came 2nd last time came first this time. Kerry, who didn't compete last time came 11th this time. In each boys and girls races there were 150 competitors. Kevin Buckley was the fist boy to finish for Wallerscote coming 45th. Most of the classes in the school have been on a trip. Miss Hall's class have been to Delamere Forest; Mrs Jones's class have been to Manchester Aerospace Museum; and Mrs Rutter's class went to the Wirral Country Park. Mr Spendel's class, our class, are going to the Isle of Man in June. Two pupils from year six went to London to collect the Schools Curriculum Award from the Princess Royal. We also took part in the 'Internet Baseball World Series', here is our team Rap.
Wallerscote Workers work all day
We never have time to play
We can work all through the night
Better watch out or we'll give you a fright
We study hard and we study long
That's why we're making this rapping song
Our brains will always stay awake
Thats one thing you shouldn't mistake
We are Wallerscote working hard
We are bricks and you're just card!

We have had many sporting events such as netball , football and cross country. In the cross country we did very well, with Kate Lievesley coming 2nd, Jackie Denne came 56th and Victoria Parsonage came 61st out of about 250. We are very proud of our success. In the netball we have had four matches but won only one of them! We decided that we needed a lot more practice. In football we have won lots of matches, with Mr Carew as a coach we are bound to win! The Year six stick insects and silk worms are enjoying a life of luxury in their new homes. Robert Clark looks after them well. They even have names. Our class are making a computer advent calender, so that each day one member of the class will open a window which will show a Christmas picture which we have drawn and will show a photograph of someone and will play a Christmas tune. Like jingle bells, we wish you a merry Christmas and ding dong merrily on high. Were still making and getting it ready for the 1st of December, the whole class are very excited. In year six we use the Internet to send e-mail to one another, you get a keypal from Canada or Australia or if your lucky you might have two. One from each. In our class we have a computer club after school on Thursdays we are really noisy but Mr Spendel is pretty cool! I think.

Kate, Victoria and Anthony.

Some children in Year Six won a prize in the NCIT awards competition.
These are the prizewinners with Mr Spendel at the award ceremony in Birmingham.
